What can you do to improve water quality in UNC streams? You can volunteer and participate in stream cleanup activities and drain marking work sessions. These events provide service hours for the Public Service Scholars Program and are recognized Green Games event.

Stream Cleanups

Campus stream cleanups are organized to help keep UNC’s creeks clean and free of trash. There are regularly scheduled stream cleanups or your group can schedule its own clean up day by calling 919-962-9752.

Scheduled stream cleanups include:

  • Big Sweep – September
  • Come out and Clean Up – October
  • Green Greeks – Fall Semester
  • Day of Service – Martin Luther King Holiday

Storm Drain Marking

Storm drain marking helps create more awareness that stormwater flows directly to creeks without being treated beforehand. Call the EHS Dept. at 919-962-9752 to arrange a drain marking event for your group.

Stormwater Education

EHS currently offers workshops on Campus Stormwater Management and on Best Management Practices for Chemical Waste Disposal. Contact the EHS Dept. at 919-962-9752 to schedule a workshop.
