Girsberger Consens

Description

This chair comes in two sizes. The chair evaluated here, the Consens 2 is the wider of the two Consens options. There is no option for seat depth adjustment. The seat tilts forward, but not far back, if at all. The seat back adjustments are easy to use. There is also an option for a high back chair. There is a noticable, although not independently adjustable, lumbar support built into the back rest. Overall, there are many different options to choose from.

Seat Description

The seat is height adjustable and tilts forward. This chair is not available with a sliding seat. It does come in 2 widths (Consens and Consens 2).

Backrest Description

The backrest is height adjustable and reclines. The chair evaluated did not have tension adjustment, though it is available. The lumbar support is prominent, though may be difficult to adjust to just the right height.

Armrest Description

The armrests are height adjustable.

Unique Features

The adjustments are easy-to-activate push buttons mounted under the chair.

Comments

This is a very simplistic chair using a design about 20 years old. This chair is a good example of the importance of evaluating a chair in the office before purchasing. Consens users can be very loyal, often because of their longtime positive experience with the chair. Others, opt for a different chair for precisely the same reason. Although the Consens adjustments are hidden under the chair and not always placed in the most intuitive locations, they get bonus points for being simple to use. However, profiling on the knobs may be uncomfortable for users with large or wide fingers. Another interesing aspect is that the back tilt adjustment is toward the front of the chair while the seat tilt adjustment is toward the back of the chair. On the chair evaluated, the armrest padding was very hard.
