Description

The Herman Miller Mirra chair is an Aeron-style design with some subtle differences.

Seat Description

Seat pan has some forward flex, making it a responsive waterfall design. The tilting is both forward and backward in a synchonized manner, and does not have an option to lock the seat in a reclined position despite the armrests being admirably suited to use in a reclined position. The seat will lock in the classic 90-degree position. Seat pan adjusts in depth, but the adjustment is barely noticeable. The seat pan is designed to fit average to small sized people; tall/large users will most likely not fit correctly with this chair.

Backrest Description

It has a perforated plastic back (with optional slip cover), and thinly padded cloth seat in the style of the SteelCast Leap chair. Backrest reclining force is controlled by a lever found on the side as opposed to the standard one under the seat, making it easier to adjust. Backrest lumbar support is defined by an independent lumbar support adjusts to fit your preferred curve.

Armrest Description

The armrests slide up/down, side/side, pivot, but not forward/backward. They lower to within 5" of the seat height and extremely high (9"). This may be useful for people who type with a mouse/keyboard on the desk. Armrest padding is thin rubber and may be quite durable.

Unique Features

The perforated back is reported to dissipate heat better than traditional backs. Many users comment that the perforation conforms comfortably to support their back.

Comments

This chair is well designed, though the controls could use some work to make them easier to use. The pivoting arms are a good idea but the lack of a lock may cause trouble for people who use the armrests to get out of the chair. The lumbar firmness adjustment is nice, although it is difficult to find the first time. The tension adjustment is the standard knob but placed nicely at the side of the chair. This chair provides a very good support and comfort for most average to small sized people.
