Ratings Explained
The rating system here was created at the University of North Carolina to take into account the specific needs of keyboard tray within a university setting.
Evaluators rated each keyboard tray’s keyboard fit, keyboard, mouse, mouse fit, accessories, instructions, and the rater’s opinion. The rating for each category was placed into one of five categories (Very Good, Good, Average, Fair and Poor). The scores were combined and normalized to a percentage of the perfect score (Overall Score).
While evaluating the keyboard tray, the evaluators kept the following criteria in mind:
- Keyboard Fit
- The “keyboard fit” category refers to the width and depth of the keyboard platform and if the area is sufficient to fit keyboards ranging from the standard keyboard to a larger keyboard like a natural keyboard. Also, “how easy is it to modify to allow for larget keyboards?”
- Keyboard
- The “keyboard” category refers to the height, angle, rotation, and stability of the keyboard tray.
- Mouse Fit
- The “mouse fit” category refers to the width and depth of the mouse platform and if the area is sufficient to fit mice ranging from the standard mouse to a larger mouse.
- Mouse
- The “mouse” category refers to the height, angle, rotation, and stability of the mouse tray.
- Accessories
- The “accessories” category refers to the wrist rests, material, and knee clearance of the keyboard tray.
- Instructions
- This category refers to how easy the adjustments are to figure out and how well-marked the adjustments are. In some cases, manufacturers included instructions on the keyboard tray.
- Rater’s Opinion
- The evaluator’s impression of the keyboard tray and feedback from users at UNC were rated in this category.
