Floor Cleaning Wash Water

Remember most exterior drains and some interior drains are not connected to a sanitary sewer system, but instead are storm drains that lead directly to a ditch, stream, or lake. Discharging dirty wash water into one of these drains could pollute surface or ground water.

Do’s

  • Do dispose of wash water into the sanitary sewer.
  • Do use a nontoxic floor cleaner.

Don’ts

  • Don’t allow floor cleaning wastewater to go into a drain (inside or outside) or septic tank leading to a ditch, stream, or lake.
